La Pensadora (The Thinker), Oviedo

The Thinker is a contemplative bronze figure by local sculptor Jos茅 Luis Fern谩ndez. Installed in 1999, this larger-than-life piece stands at approximately 2.75 m tall and weighs around 700 kg, making it a focal point near the east side of the Campoamor Theatre. Fern谩ndez originally created the smaller wooden carving鈥攖itled 鈥淪eated Woman鈥� 鈥攁round 1968 or 1976 as part of his retrospective 30 Years of Sculpture.

The bronze version you see today is a faithful expansion that visualizes the same figure: a seated woman gazing toward the horizon, lost in thought, arms and posture suggesting quiet introspection.
