What to see in Sucre, one of the two capitals of Bolivia? Sucre is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful cities in South America. The main square, the churches, the viewpoints, the various patios…there are so many things to see in Sucre!
I visited Sucre a first time in 2013, but on my second visit in 2025 I appreciated the city even more. I’ll leave you with one piece of advice already: carve out some time to walk around the city center at night, so that you can appreciate even more the ciudad blanca, a name derived from the houses, almost all of which are white in hue!
Plaza 25 de Mayo is definitely the center of Sucre. Here you can find the Government Palace, the Cathedral, and the Casa de la Libertad. The plaza is very lively during daylight hours: it is a continuous swarm of people, which makes it very pleasant to visit. It is also worth a visit at night: in fact, in the hours of darkness the monuments are illuminated and are truly spectacular!
It is possible to see the Plaza 25 de Mayo from above from both the Cathedral and the Government Palace. Both views are magnificent and I recommend you visit both! The view from the roof of the Cathedral is only by guided tour, which cannot be booked: tours usually leave every half hour and last 30 minutes. The Cathedral can also be visited only with a guide: the tour lasts about an hour and I did not do it, choosing other monuments that I will go on to indicate later. ......
