What to See in Dubrovnik in One Day, Dubrovnik, Croatia
Oh Dubrovnik, I don’t know if you are more expensive or more beautiful: this post describes what to see in Dubrovnik in one day, not forgetting the issue of overtourism and inflated prices. I visited Dubrovnik, Ragusa in Italian, in July 2025. Dubrovnik, in fact, was the starting and ending point of my Balkan bike tour, recounted here.
What can I say, Dubrovnik is truly a jewel, but the prices give the impression of really entering a jewelry store.
Pile Gate is the main entrance to the walled city of Dubrovnik. This gate dates back to the 16th century. Already here it is possible to perceive the problem of overtourism. In fact, the passage at Pile Gate is pedestrian, but it is divided by direction of travel: there is often a veritable flood of people.
Just past the Pile Gate is Onofrio’s fountain, built in the 15th century. At that time Dubrovnik was already an important trading port: it was the Neapolitan Onofrio della Cava who was the architect who brought, for the first time, drinking water to Dubrovnik, in 1438. Onofrio himself built the fountain near the Rector’s Palace. Currently Onofrio’s fountain is a meeting place, and near it is the tourist office where you can buy the Dubrovnik Pass. ......
