Spending Half a Day at Montmartre

Spending Half a Day at Montmartre, Paris, France

As can be seen from my 3-Day Iconic Paris Itinerary, I consider Montmartre to be one of my top highlights of Paris. That’s because there is so much to like about this hilltop neighbourhood. This place has not only played a major part in the history of art and culture, but also maintained its charm and village-like atmosphere over the years. Together with this post, we explore Montmartre in half a day.

Montmartre is brilliantly rich in its arts heritage mainly because numerous artists have, in part of their lives, called this place home. For example, this includes the likes of Picasso, van Gogh, Salvador Dali and French singer Dalida. Furthermore, it is also arguably the birthplace of the cabaret and the cancan dance. Montmartre is conveniently served by five metro stations, although I would just recommend to arrive by two of them.

I highly recommend that you start the route from either the Anvers (Metro line 2) or Abbesses (Metro line 12) stations as they are the most conveniently located and they allow you to follow the route in a more logical manner without any overlap. You’ll have to climb at least 270 steps uphill to get to the main sights of Montmartre, but even if you prefer not to, at least there is the funicular option. ......
