Many travellers see Sapporo as a base or transit hub for Hokkaid艒鈥檚 famous hot springs, stunning mountains, and sweeping volcanic landscapes. However, the city enjoys chic cafes, a thriving food scene, shopping until you drop, and a bright nightlife.

During this April visit, the streets of Japan鈥檚 fifth-largest city were oddly quiet, but where was everyone? More on that later鈥�

Sapporo boasts a plethora of restaurants and cafes to stave your hunger pangs. Don鈥檛 forget to try Japan鈥檚 famous Sapporo beer.

Even though a self-contained apartment is pre-booked, there鈥檚 always room to feast on local delicacies.

Two signature dishes you must try in Sapporo are the ramen topped with fresh corn kernels and the curry soup. Strangely, I didn鈥檛 find the curry soup.
